Rockies' Pat Valaika: Makes case for MLB roster spot

Valaika is 12-for-41 (.293) with three home runs in 19 spring games.

Analysis:

Valaika's spring showing has opened the eyes of the Rockies brass, both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He's been picking up first base in an attempt to fill the void left after Ian Desmond's (hand) injury, and he continues to excel with his glove at the other infield positions. It could be tough for the utility infielder to land a major league spot, however, as Jordan Patterson, Stephen Cardullo and Christhian Adames are also enjoying strong springs, and Valaika happens to have more minor league options available than all of them.
