Padres' Manuel Margot: Could play in games next weekend

Padres manager Andy Green said Sunday that Margot (knee) isn't in jeopardy of missing the start of the season, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports. "He's still got enough time," Green said. "I think if you start pushing past Friday and Saturday without getting him on the baseball field, then it becomes in danger for making the Opening Day roster. I think there's still enough time for him, given his current trajectory."

Analysis:

Margot has missed the past two weeks with left knee soreness, but Green seemed optimistic that the prized young outfielder could be able to resume playing in Cactus League games by next weekend. If Margot is able to get about a week's worth of games in before Opening Day commences, he shouldn't have much difficultly securing a regular starting role to begin the season. With Alex Dickerson (back) on track to open 2017 on the disabled list, Margot, Travis Jankowski and Hunter Renfroe will each have a pathway to everyday at-bats.
