Mets' Matt Harvey: Tops out at 94 mph Friday
Harvey was sitting at 92-93 mph with his fastball during Friday's Grapefruit League start and topped out at 94 mph, the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis:
While those certainly aren't bad radar-gun readings for the second week of March, they're a far cry from the 96 mph Harvey was averaging prior to undergoing surgery last July to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome. Given the limited - and discouraging - data on pitchers making full recoveries from that procedure, fantasy owners should be hesitant to pay full freight for the 27-year-old on the assumption that he will simply return to his previous form.
