One of the most controversial players in New York Yankees history was back in pinstripes on Tuesday.

Alex Rodriguez arrived at George M. Steinbrenner Field to serve as a guest instructor and adviser for the club.

"He's going to work with our players," Yankees skipper Joe Girardi said Monday. "Dispense knowledge that he has about how to play the game when he talks to the young kids, some of the expectations about how to deal with it. All the things Alex did well."

Rodriguez spent 12 seasons in New York before announcing in August that he and the Yankees agreed to his unconditional release from his player contract, and would transition into the front office as a special adviser and instructor. The team is still responsible for paying out A-Rod's remaining salary that will see him earn $21 million in 2017.
