White Sox's Derek Holland: Targets 200 innings in 2017

Holland threw his first bullpen session Tuesday and reported feeling "awesome" after battling injuries the last three seasons, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

The 30-year-old Holland, who spent the first eight years of his career with Texas, signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the White Sox, presumably to fill a spot in the rotation. He's made just 35 starts over the past three seasons, a workload limited by a left-knee injury in 2014, a strained left-shoulder muscle in 2015, and then left-shoulder inflammation in 2016. The veteran left-hander is targeting 200 innings, a threshold he's met just once during his career. Meeting that goal will be a challenge, particularly on a rebuilding team with a glut of pitching prospects at Triple-A -- Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Carson Fulmer -- that are likely make their way to Chicago this season.
