Report: Blue Jays agree to 1-year, $3M deal with Joe Smith

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly added another right-handed arm to their bullpen late Saturday night.

Toronto agreed to terms on a one-year contract with relief pitcher Joe Smith, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Smith appeared in 54 games last season, splitting time with the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs.

The deal is worth $3 million with $500,000 in performance bonuses, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.

Rosenthal notes it's a major-league deal for the veteran, who has also played for the Cleveland Indians and New York Mets in his 10-year career.

Smith should add depth to the Blue Jays' bullpen along with fellow right-handers Joe Biagini and Jason Grilli to help eat up late innings before turning things over to closer Roberto Osuna.

The 32-year-old was dealt to the Cubs last August and posted a 2.51 ERA in 14 1/3 innings but was left off Chicago's playoff roster.
