Report: Rockies GM, CarGo hoping for contract extension

Carlos Gonzalez is apparently in the Colorado Rockies' long-term plans.

With the outfielder set to hit free agency following the 2017 season, Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich is reportedly hoping to extend the 31-year-old's contract, reports ESPN's Jim Bowden.

Though they're still far apart in negotiations, Bowden notes both sides hope to get a deal completed.

Thanks to an abundance of outfielders on the Rockies' roster, including Gerardo Parra, Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, and possibly Ian Desmond, Gonzalez has piqued plenty of interest from teams hoping to land the three-time Gold Glove winner. That speculation, however, led Bridich to state in December he wasn't interested in dealing the right fielder.

Gonzalez slashed .298/.350/.505 in 150 games with Colorado last season and is set to earn $20 million in 2017.
