The Chicago Cubs and right hander Jake Arrieta have been in discussions for a contract extension for some time now, and his agent, Scott Boras, wants a deal done sooner rather than later.

When asked when he expected contract talks to resume, Boras reiterated the window for the Cubs to extend Arrieta is now and will meet with the club in January to exchange arbitration figures, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

This marks Arrieta's third and final year of arbitration as both sides have until Jan. 17 to get a deal done. If an agreement is not reached by then, an arbitration panel will determine Arrieta's salary for 2017. He is projected to earn a salary close to $16.8 million in arbitration, according to MLB Trade Rumours.

he 30-year-old is coming off his third straight solid season with the Cubs. In four full seasons in Chicago, Arrieta has gone 54-21 combining to a 2.52 ERA and an elite 0.98 WHIP.
