Boras: Wieters may not sign until January

While the free-agent market has blossomed for players such as Yoenis Cespedes, Mark Melancon, and Ian Desmond, the same can't be said for Matt Wieters.

The free-agent catcher hasn't received much interest throughout the offseason, and may not sign until January, his agent Scott Boras told Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline.com.

Wieters entered free agency as quite possibly the best backstop available, but hasn't received a deal yet, even though Jason Castro, Jeff Mathis, and an injured Wilson Ramos have all found new homes.

PLAYER PA HR RBI OPS WAR
Matt Wieters 464 17 66 .711 1.7
Jason Castro 376 11 32 .684 1.1
Jeff Mathis 132 2 15 .601 0.1
Wilson Ramos 523 22 80 .850 3.5

Wieters appeared in just 225 games over the last three seasons, and underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2014.

The 30-year-old - who's spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles since being drafted fifth overall in 2007 - could still return to the O's, which Boras has touched on by mentioning the team makes the postseason when Wieters is behind the plate.

For his part, Orioles executive Dan Duquette didn't rule out a return, telling Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com that Wieters is "still on our list of catchers."

Over his eight-year career, Wieters owns a .256/.318/.421 slash line with 117 home runs and 437 RBIs, including four All-Star appearances and two Gold Glove awards.
