Cubs' Hector Rondon: Penciled in as closer for 2017

Manager Joe Maddon said Tuesday that as of now, Rondon is slated to be the Cubs' closer for 2017, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

Aroldis Chapman's arrival from New York at the trade deadline relegated Rondon to setup duty. Rondon landed on the DL with a triceps issue shortly thereafter and wasn't especially sharp upon his return, but it seems Maddon still trusts Rondon more than Carl Edwards Jr. and Pedro Strop. Of course, the Cubs could always sign or trade for a closer, but it sounds like Rondon is penciled in again as the endgamer for Chicago.
