Padres, former president release statement about 'amicable' split

Kirby Lee / US PRESSWIRE

It's been more than a month since the San Diego Padres announced they had parted ways with president and CEO Mike Dee amid a disastrous season from the organization which included angry rants from executive chairman Ron Fowler and the suspension of general manager A.J. Preller.

Both sides decided to issue a combined statement about the amicable split on Wednesday.

"The Padres and Mike Dee have amicably parted ways. We thank Mike for his contributions and wish him and his family all the best. Consistent with our policy not to comment on personal matters, we have no further comment," wrote Fowler and managing partner Peter Seidler.

Neither side discussed the exact reason for the split in October, and they did not cover the topic in Wednesday's statement either.

"I wish to thank Ron Fowler and Peter Seidler for the opportunity to lead the Padres over the last three years. I wish them and the entire organization well in what I believe is a very bright future that lies ahead," Dee wrote.

Dee left his position as CEO of the Miami Dolphins to join the Padres in 2013, after previously serving with the organization as a business executive from 1995-2002. He was responsible for the hiring of Preller, but his departure was not related to the GM's suspension, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin wrote last month.
