Indians' Tim Cooney: Heading to Indians

Cooney (shoulder) was claimed off waivers by the Indians on Friday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Analysis:

Cooney missed the entirety of the 2016 campaign due to a shoulder injury, but the Indians decided to scoop him up given his strong history of success as a starter in the Cardinals' organization. The left-hander posted a 3.16 ERA and a 29:10 K:BB in six starts in the big leagues back in 2015, so if he can get back to full health prior to the start of spring training, Cooney realistically could compete for a rotation spot at the major league level.
