Phillies' David Buchanan: Sent off 40-man roster

Buchanan was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Friday.

Analysis:

With a number of higher profile prospects coming up the pipeline, there simply wasn't room for Buchanan to stay on the 40-man roster. There's still hope for the 27-year-old, as he was a serviceable starter with good control at Triple-A last season. That being said, his ceiling now sits more at a back-end starter or even a long reliever in the majors.
