The late Tom Cheek promised Joe Carter he'd never hit a bigger home run in his life. Turns out no one has.

Twenty-three years ago today, it was Carter who connected on a 2-2 pitch from Phillies closer Mitch Williams for an epic three-run shot that clinched the Blue Jays' second straight championship and sent the city of Toronto into a state of delirium.

"Touch 'em all Joe," Blue Jays radio announcer said after Carter's blast ended Game 6 of the World Series on Oct. 23, 1993. "You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!"

Carter's dramatic homer made him just the second player ever to hit a World Series-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth of a deciding game. The only other player is Bill Mazeroski, whose Game 7 homer in the 1960 World Series clinched the Pittsburgh Pirates' third title in franchise history.
