Padres' Cory Spangenberg: Headed to spring complex soon

Spangenberg (quad) will report to the team's spring training complex in Arizona in the near future, the team's official site reports.

Analysis:

If he's cleared to do so, Spangenberg is a candidate to play winter ball after his quad injury limited him to just 14 games for the Padres in 2016. Presumably, Spangenberg will be in the mix for a starting job at second base this spring as part of a competition with Ryan Schimpf and Carlos Asuaje.
