Cubs set postseason record with youthful Game 2 lineup
The Chicago Cubs announced their starting lineup for Game 2 of the World Series, and it has a common - and historic - theme.
Chicago will start six players aged 24 or younger against the Indians at Progressive Field on Wednesday, which is a new postseason record, according to MLB Statistics.
PLAYER | POSITION IN GM. 2 | AGE |
---|---|---|
Kyle Schwarber | DH | 23 |
Willson Contreras | C | 24 |
Javier Baez | 2B | 23 |
Addison Russell | SS | 22 |
Kris Bryant | 3B | 24 |
Jorge Soler | RF | 24 |
Chicago also has 22-year-old outfielder Albert Almora Jr. on its bench.
The Cubs' roster averaged 28.8 years old during the regular season, according to Statista.
The North Siders' youth has been a big part of their success throughout the 2016 regular and postseason campaigns, with Bryant among the front-runners for the National League MVP, Russell leading NL shortstops in regular-season RBIs, and Baez (14 hits) and Contreras (1.026 OPS) tearing up opposing pitchers in the playoffs.
