Jeff Samardzija's return to Chicago didn't go well during Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Saturday.

The 31-year-old lasted just two innings against his former club, the Chicago Cubs, allowing four earned runs on six hits, walking one, and striking out one. The outing was the shortest of his career, with his previous low being three innings of work.

Chicago got to the right-hander early, with leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler doubling after a nine-pitch at-bat before coming around to score in the game's opening inning.

The floodgates opened in the second, when four consecutive batters reached base, including pitcher Kyle Hendricks, who drove in two runs with a single to extend the Cubs lead to four.

San Francisco pinch-hit for Samardzija in the third inning, and he was later replaced on the mound by George Kontos.

The Giants hurler wasn't impressed with how he threw in post game comments.

"Your job is to get outs and pitch deep into the game and get into a rhythm," Samardzija told reporters. "But, it never took place tonight. It wasn't my night."

Samardzija, who spent 2008-14 with the Cubs, made only one postseason appearance prior to Saturday, allowing two hits and an earned run over an inning of work as a reliever in the 2008 NLDS.
