The New York Mets will be without infielder Wilmer Flores during their postseason run, no matter its length, after general manager Sandy Alderson announced Wednesday the Venezuelan will undergo wrist surgery.
The 25-year-old's surgery will take place later this week to remove the hook of the hamate bone in the base of his right hand, Alderson said.
The procedure is minor, but is enough for Flores to miss the postseason.
He hasn't played since injuring his wrist in a Sept. 10 collision at home plate.
Flores slashed .267/.319/.469 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs in 335 plate appearances this season.
