Holliday calls home run an 'out-of-body experience'

In what might've been his final swing as a St. Louis Cardinal, Matt Holliday made it count.

After the 36-year-old was informed earlier this week the club was unlikely to pick up his $17-million option for next season, manager Mike Matheny wanted to give the veteran slugger at least one more home at-bat.

Holliday was activated from the disabled list ahead of Friday's game and cracked a pinch-hit seventh-inning home run to send Busch Stadium into a frenzy.

"(It was an) out-of-body experience," Holliday told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. "I don't even remember rounding the bases. It felt like something that God gave me."

Holliday has spent the last eight years with the Cardinals, though his last two seasons have been slowed due to injuries. He's been limited to just 108 games this year with a fractured right thumb.

While his time in St. Louis is soon coming to an end, Holliday said he fully intends to continue his career somewhere.

"I have a lot of good baseball left in me," Holliday said.
