Cardinals' Matt Holliday: Could be activated

The Cardinals are "ready to activate" Holliday (thumb) from the DL, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Analysis:

As of earlier this week, it was considered unlikely that Holliday would return to action this season as the thumb has not held up well in live BP. While he may be activated after all, it's uncertain what kind of role he'll play over the final weekend. Holliday could end up just making a pinch-hit appearance or two so the fans in St. Louis can show their appreciation for his contributions to the team over the years. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports is reporting that the Cardinals do not plan to pick up Holliday's option or extend him a qualifying offer this winter.
