Rays' Enny Romero: Makes first appearance since Sept. 10 gaff

Romero fired a scoreless eighth inning in Wednesday's 11-5 loss to the Yankees, walking one but striking out the side.

Analysis:

It was the 25-year-old's first appearance since facing this same Yankees squad back on Sept. 10 and failing to intentionally walk Gary Sanchez as instructed, leading to a sacrifice fly. Tellingly, manager Kevin Cash opted to not use Romero until a blowout scenario like Wednesday's, but to the latter's credit, he responded with an impressive effort. The reliever fired 13 of 22 pitches for strikes and mowed down Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Mark Teixeira. Despite the success Wednesday, it remains to be seen how many more opportunities Romero will receive during the balance of the campaign.
