Cubs' John Lackey: Highly efficient in win over Reds

Lackey (10-8) overcame a tough second inning to finish seven strong frames in Wednesday's win over the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Analysis:

He came in looking to bounce back from a three-homer misstep against the Brewers, and the veteran righty did just that, giving up two or fewer runs for the fifth time in his last six starts. The Reds' second-inning rally accounted for the vast majority of what they were able to do against Lackey, as they got four men on base and scored both their runs in that frame. Over his other six innings, Lackey gave up just two hits, and his day was finished after a leisurely 87 pitches. Lackey may only make one more start before the regular season ends; he'll draw the Pirates on Tuesday, but could conceivably be skipped in preparation for the playoffs when his turn comes up on the season's last day.
