Dodgers set MLB record with 28 players on DL

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with more injury adversity than any team in major-league history this season, and now they have the record to prove it.

On Friday, the same day the Dodgers welcomed Clayton Kershaw back after being sidelined for more than two months, the club set a MLB record by placing their 28th player of the season on the disabled list. The previous record was held by the 2012 Boston Red Sox.

The record-setting transaction was made official when the club sent right-hander Carlos Frias to the 60-day DL with a right oblique impingement. The division-leading Dodgers tied the record last month when starters Scott Kazmir and Brett Anderson joined pitchers Brandon McCarthy, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Alex Wood on the DL.

Earlier in the day, the Dodgers' injury woes worsened when it was revealed Kazmir will undergo an MRI on his ailing neck and be shut down for a couple weeks after suffering a setback during Wednesday's rehab outing.

Despite the mounting injury woes, the Dodgers (79-60) entered Friday with a five-game lead over the Giants in the NL West.

The Dodgers also received good news ahead of Kershaw's return against the Marlins when the club announced Andre Either is expected to be activated this weekend after missing more than five months with a broken leg.
