Tigers' Justin Wilson: Struggling with velocity

Wilson's fastball velocity has dropped since earlier this season and he seems to be struggling with location, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Analysis:

He has a 4.24 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 57 relief appearances, but he lasted just nine pitches Friday night, allowing three straight singles. Wilson's velocity is down about two mph since early in the season. He received a cortisone shot in early August because of elbow soreness, but manager Brad Ausmus was quick to refute suggestions he's injured. The Tigers will watch Wilson's workload in the immediate future to try to get him back to the top of his game as the team's top left-handed reliever.
