It appears Yasiel Puig may have been close to being dealt by the Los Angeles Dodgers after all - and he would have apparently gone to a rather unlikely destination.

The Milwaukee Brewers reportedly won the waiver claim on the temperamental outfielder, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. However, they couldn't reach an agreement with the Dodgers prior to the Aug. 31 waiver-trade deadline, so Puig was pulled back from the waiver wire. It's unknown how close they were to making a deal.

Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun was reportedly a part of this week's negotiations between the two clubs, according to Rosenthal. Los Angeles had reportedly pursued the former National League MVP leading into the Aug. 1 non-waiver deadline, to no avail.

The Dodgers were only going to trade Puig if it was as part of a package for a "better player," per Rosenthal.

Braun has the Dodgers as one of six teams on his limited no-trade list, meaning he would have had to approve any trade.

Puig, who spent the last month in Triple-A amid behavioral issues and a disappointing season on the field, was recalled by the Dodgers on Friday and placed in their starting lineup against San Diego.
