Angels' Tyler Skaggs: Stymies Tigers for six innings Sunday

Skaggs (2-3) struck out six while allowing just two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings Sunday in a 5-0 win over the Tigers.

Analysis:

If it weren't for Miguel Cabrera, who collected a single and a double off him, Skaggs would have had a no-hitter going. There's been no middle ground for the left-hander since he joined the Angels' rotation -- he's got a 0.00 ERA and 19:5 K:BB in 18.1 innings over three of his starts, but a 9.68 ERA and 16:11 K:BB over 17.2 innings in his other four outings. If you can stomach the volatility, Skaggs does have a favorable matchup in his next start Saturday in Seattle against a Mariners squad that ranks 22nd in the majors with a .314 wOBA against lefties.
