Royals' Wade Davis: Starting rehab assignment Wednesday

Davis (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, pitching an inning with one of the team's rookie-level affiliates.

Analysis:

Davis has been throwing bullpen sessions throughout the month since landing on the disabled list toward the end of July, and it appears he's getting close to a return. He'll likely require a few rehab appearances, but the team's closer seems set to reprise his role by the start of September, with Kelvin Herrera continuing to fill in at the back end of the bullpen in the meantime.
