Retiring Teixeira thinks A-Rod would be 'nice fit' with Marlins

Alex Rodriguez may not suit up for another club this season, according to a spokesperson, but one of his former teammates on the New York Yankees believes the 41-year-old would be a nice addition to one club in particular.

Mark Teixeira, who is retiring at season's end, believes his ex-teammate would be a wise pickup for the Miami Marlins, who were reportedly showing interest in his services.

"It could be a nice fit," Teixeira told Randy Miller of NJ.com when discussing Miami's reported interest in A-Rod. "Maybe next year."

Teixeira, a close friend of Rodriguez, plans to support his buddy no matter what decision he comes to, although he was pretty firm when it came to his own playing status.

"I'm torn, but I want Alex to (be) happy," Teixeira explained. "He deserves to do whatever he wants to do and if that's to continue to play, then I'll be happy for him. But if he wants to stay retired or stay home with his girls, I think that would be great, too.

"Me, I know I'm done. That makes it easy."

The pair were both, at one time, crucial parts of the Yankees, but 2016 had been a struggle for the pair, thanks to injuries and ineffectiveness, which led to Teixeira announcing his retirement and A-Rod's release from the club.

2016 Stats

PLAYER HR RBI OPS
Alex Rodriguez 9 31 .598
Mark Teixeira 10 28 .622

And while Teixeira is sure he's done, he isn't so certain if A-Rod will hang them up just yet.

"I think he can help a team," Teixeira said. "But I don't want to put myself in his head and predict anything. I'm going to support Alex whatever he wants to do."
