Prince Fielder and Lou Gehrig both had to call an early end to their respective careers, but as far as comparisons go, that's where the similarities end.
Forced to call it quits due to his surgically repaired neck, Fielder, alongside his two sons, addressed reporters at a press conference Wednesday to tell them his playing days were over.
Gehrig, however, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a degenerative, fatal neurological disease, leading to his famous farewell address at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939 and, eventually, his death on June 2, 1941.
One reporter awkwardly asked Fielder if he now understands what Gehrig was going through in his speech.
Fielder's simple, one-word response succinctly summed up the situation.
