Twins' Joe Mauer: Gets day off Sunday

Mauer is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Twins manager Paul Molitor is just giving Mauer a day off Sunday, despite the first baseman's hot run at the plate of late. Over his last six games, Mauer has gone 14-for-25 (.560 average) with a homer, five walks, eight runs and nine RBI. He'll give way to Kennys Vargas at first base Sunday, but Mauer looks like a worthy activation heading into the week given how he's performed recently.
