Nationals place Zimmerman on DL with bruised wrist

WASHINGTON - The Washington Nationals have put first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left wrist.

The NL East leaders recalled outfielder Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Syracuse before Saturday night's game against San Francisco.

The move with Zimmerman was retroactive to Aug. 1, a day after he was hit in the wrist by a pitch from Giants closer Santiago Casilla in the ninth inning of a game in San Francisco.

Zimmerman has been struggling with injuries this season. He is hitting .222 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 80 games.

''It's really frustrating,'' Zimmerman said. ''We'll be fine, and it shouldn't be too long. I enjoy playing baseball and not being able to do it is tough.''

The 25-year-old Goodwin is set for his major league debut. He hit .284 with 11 homers and 62 RBIs at Triple-A Syracuse.
