The Toronto Blue Jays may be satisfied with the recent acquisition of starter Francisco Liriano, but they had their eyes set on Rich Hill before Monday's 4 p.m. trade deadline.

The Blue Jays were "relentless" in their pursuit of Hill before the Oakland Athletics traded the left-hander to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a major-league source told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Hill was linked to the Jays prior to the deadline due to his $6-million salary and impending free-agent status. Rosenthal notes the Jays discussed acquiring other starters before settling on Liriano, who's under contract for 2017 at $13 million.

Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick were traded to the Dodgers for three prospects.
