Cardinals' Jaime Garcia: To start Saturday on short rest

Garcia will start Saturday's game against the Marlins on three days' rest, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.

Analysis:

He threw just 77 pitches in his last start, and said he'll be ready to go Saturday on short rest. This seems like an odd decision, given Garcia's past shoulder injuries, but he maintained that his shoulder feels fine. The Cardinals were either going to have to go with a bullpen game or call up top prospect Alex Reyes for a spot start due to Monday's postponement and Tuesday's subsequent doubleheader, and apparently they felt the best move was to give Garcia the ball on short rest.
