Report: Numerous teams inquiring about Angels' Smith

The Los Angeles Angels are in the midst of their worst season in over a decade, so it may be time for them to begin shopping around some of their assets.

Multiple sources are reporting the Angels may end up trading side-winding right-hander Joe Smith prior to the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline.

The Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners and possibly the St. Louis Cardinals are all interested in the 32-year-old, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Cleveland and New York both know Smith well. The Mets drafted him in 2006 and the Indians employed the reliever for five seasons before the move to Los Angeles.

Smith owns a 1-4 record with a 3.96 ERA across 36 1/3 innings of work, including six saves in nine chances.

Reporters have also speculated the Angels could move closer Huston Street as well.

The 32-year-old closer owns a 3-1 record with a 4.79 ERA, saving eight games in 10 chances, while missing time with oblique and hamstring injuries.
