MLB warns Puig of fine if he wears Scully cleats again

The fashion police have come to Dodger Stadium.

Yasiel Puig received a letter from Major League Baseball warning him of a $5,000 fine should he wear his Vin Scully-tribute cleats during a game again, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

The Cuban slugger wore the cleats, which featured the retiring broadcaster's face and the phrase "Win for Vin," during the Dodgers' game against Arizona on July 17.

It wasn't the first time Puig has worn custom footwear on the diamond this season. This past July 4, he broke out a pair of star-spangled cleats that were well received for the occasion of Independence Day.

Some of his future fashion plans may have been altered by MLB's warning, though. The 25-year-old told Plunkett that he's planning on wearing a pair of cleats adorned with the Statue of Liberty when the Dodgers visit Yankee Stadium in September, but is now wondering if wearing them would cause him to be fined.
