Giants' Johnny Cueto: Stellar despite no-decision Saturday
Cueto did not factor into the decision in Saturday's extra-inning victory over the Yankees, despite striking out nine and giving up only a run (unearned) on six hits and a walk over six innings.
Analysis:
The last-minute starter turned in a typically solid performance, although he struggled a bit with his pitch count by immediately getting behind on 14 of the 25 hitters he faced. However, Cueto did notch 11 swinging strikes, and bounced back nicely after a surprising loss to the Padres last Sunday. He brought his ERA back down to 2.53, and will look to put together another strong outing next Thursday versus the Nationals.
