Twins' Joe Mauer: Not in Saturday's lineup
Mauer is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Analysis:
There has been nothing to suggest an injury is in play and he just rested last Sunday, so it seems Mauer's absence is largely due to his recent slump (4-for-26 since the All-Star break) and season-long struggles against left-handed pitching (.222/.271/.300). Lefty David Price is toeing the rubber for Boston on Saturday. Mauer's spot in the top third of the lineup against right-handers should be safe, but he could ride the pine more often against southpaws down the stretch.
