Red Sox's David Price: Withstands pressure, still suffers loss

Price fell to 9-7 with Sunday's loss to the Yankees, as he allowed three runs on 11 hits and a walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out just one.

Analysis:

Timely pitching allowed Price to mitigate the damage relative to the number of men he put on base, but the offense wasn't able to do much against Masahiro Tanaka, and he suffered his third loss in the last four starts. Control was not the issue Sunday, as 73 percent of his pitches went for strikes, but Price was unable to miss many bats and missed over the plate with regularity. He has simply failed to pitch consistently this season, as his 4.36 ERA suggests, and his next chance to get it right will come Saturday against the Twins.
