WASHINGTON - The Washington Nationals scratched Daniel Murphy from the lineup Friday after he injured his hamstring while sliding into second base during Tuesday's All-Star Game in San Diego.

The team listed Murphy as day-to-day.

Murphy, who leads the majors with a .348 batting average, was set to bat third and play first base. It would've been the regular second baseman's third start at first this season.

"I just felt some tightness," Murphy told reporters, according to Chase Hughes of CSN Mid-Atlantic. "I think that after speaking with the training staff, we felt that it was the best idea to give it a day. Then we'll come in tomorrow and see how it feels."

Murphy said he suffered the injury after singling during the seventh inning of Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the American League.

Murphy leads the Nationals with 117 hits and 66 RBIs, and has career-high 17 home runs to trail only Bryce Harper (19) and Danny Espinosa (18).

"We can't lose Murphy for any period of time," manager Dusty Baker said. "The leg is hurting, but it's not too bad. We want to stop it before it gets to something worse."
