David Ortiz's 10th and final All-Star appearance ended in anticlimactic fashion Tuesday in San Diego, when the Boston Red Sox legend exited quietly to a standing ovation after drawing a walk in the third inning.

Prior to the game, there was considerable fanfare over whether Jose Fernandez would groove a pitch down the middle so Ortiz could hit a homer in his All-Star finale. Alas, Fernandez and Big Papi exchanged laughs during the third-inning showdown, but all Ortiz got to show for it was a seven-pitch walk.

Ortiz was replaced by Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion, and greeted by his American League teammates who emptied the dugout and congregated to the right of the first-base line. After the game, Ortiz called the embraces Ortiz ''something I'll never forget ... You see all your boys.''

Ortiz, who's retiring at the end of the season, entered his final All-Star Game with a .313/.389/.500 slash line and eight extra-base hits in 16 at-bats.
