Dodgers' Scott Kazmir: Inability to throw strikes shortens outing
Kazmir endured a rough outing Friday against the Padres, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks across just three innings. He struck out five and did not factor into the decision.
Analysis:
Kazmir simply couldn't find the zone with enough regularity to succeed Friday, as he ran his pitch count up to 85 during his short time on the mound, 44% of which went for balls. The lefty delivered his best start of the season last time out and had a 3.18 ERA over his last three, so Friday effectively halted some decent momentum he had going into the All-Star break. He will carry a disappointing 4.52 ERA into the second half.
