This may be one of the few times New York Mets fans will hear from Matt Harvey the rest of this season.

Harvey took to his Twitter account Friday afternoon to share a brief statement with fans after it was announced earlier in the day he'll undergo season-ending surgery to address his thoracic outlet syndrome, and hinted that he won't have much more to say on the issue going forward.

"I'm extremely disappointed to learn that I'll be out for the season, but I'm relieved to have answers and get back to doing what I love," the 27-year-old tweeted. "I hope you'll understand if I stay out of touch (and) stick to the business of getting healthy."

The process to restore Harvey's health will come in the form of surgery to remove a rib to restore feeling to his pitching shoulder and fingers.

"The key is Matt Harvey’s velocity is fine. His body is fine," Harvey's agent, Scott Boras, told Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. "This really is just more about him getting the consistency with an arm slot and him having sensation in his fingers. The doctor is very positive about the outcome."

Harvey ends his 2016 season with a league-high 10 losses, a disappointing 4.86 ERA, and a 1.468 WHIP in 92 2/3 innings pitched. Though he won't be able to help the Mets on the field, he's got high hopes for his team going forward.

"I know how strong and determined my teammates are, and I will stand behind them for the rest of the season!" he said.
