Cubs' Dexter Fowler: Set to begin rehab assignment Friday

Fowler (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A South Bend on Friday, Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago reports.

Analysis:

Fowler has been progressing smoothly from a hamstring strain he suffered in mid-June, completing lateral movement drills, outfield work and baserunning, and is now set to take the final step in his rehab program. He'll head to South Bend now to acclimate himself to game action and is likely in line to return to the Cubs lineup immediately following the All-Star break.
