Analysis:
Mauer's day off likely has much to do with southpaw Cole Hamels being on the mound for the Rangers. Twins manager Paul Molitor will avoid the lefty-on-lefty matchup by deploying the right-handed hitting Trevor Plouffe as his first baseman.
