Pirates' Ryan Vogelsong: Expected to throw simulated game Friday

Vogelsong (eye) is expected to throw a simulated game Friday in Oakland, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Analysis:

Vogelsong was able to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, and it appears the next step in his progression will be a simulated game Friday. The veteran right-hander had posted a 3.74 ERA before being placed on the 60-day DL on May 23. He is still not expected to be ready to return until late July.
