Jose Reyes reportedly won't be a free agent for long.

The shortstop, who officially becomes a free agent at 1:00 p.m. ET Saturday, is expected to sign with the New York Mets, according to multiple reports.

An official announcement will reportedly take place at some point in the afternoon, according to Newsday's Marc Carig.

Reyes - who recently completed a 51-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy after an October incident with his wife in Hawaii - was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies on June 15, who then requested release waivers on the four-time All-Star a week later.

As of Friday, the Mets coaching staff were already discussing what they planned to do with the 33-year-old upon his arrival. With third baseman David Wright out with a neck injury, the hot corner could be a viable option.

Reyes, who's longed for a Mets' reunion, is a three-time stolen base champion, who owns a career slash line of .290/.339/.431 with 118 home runs, 621 RBIs, 117 triples, and 479 stolen bases.

During his time with the Mets, Reyes was a dynamic sparkplug atop their order, slashing .292/.341/.441 with 81 home runs, 99 triples, 423 RBIs, and 370 stolen bases.
