The scuffling Chicago White Sox have seen enough of Jimmy Rollins, as the club designated the 37-year-old for assignment Friday morning and promoted shortstop Tim Anderson - widely considered the organization's top prospect - from Triple-A Charlotte, the team announced.

Rollins, who landed the club's vacant shortstop job after signing a minor-league deal with the White Sox in February, got off to a decent start on the South Side, but has been a disaster at the plate of late, hitting just .173/.259/.269 with one home run, two stolen bases, and 15 strikeouts since May 13. In 41 games with the White Sox, the three-time All-Star and former MVP managed a .624 OPS with two homers while posting just 0.1 WAR.

Anderson, meanwhile, enjoyed an impressive start with Charlotte this season after tearing up Double-A last year, hitting .304/.325/.409 with four home runs, 10 doubles, and 11 steals in 55 games despite battling a left wrist strain in early April. Selected 17th overall in the 2013 draft, the 22-year-old hit .301 over parts of four seasons in the minors, earning plaudits from scouts not only for his plus hit tool, but his plus-plus speed and solid-average work at shortstop, too.

"He continues to improve and get better," White Sox assistant general manager Buddy Bell recently told the Chicago Sun-Times. "His feet are so quick sometimes he gets ahead of himself but has made vast improvements. He really gets the speed of the game fairly quick, at any level he's been at.

"He's really a smart, intelligent kid with good instincts. With any young kid there is going to be some growing pains. But he seems to figure it out pretty quickly.'"
