Beltran homers for career hit No. 2,500

New York Yankees veteran Carlos Beltran continued his unlikely power resurgence Saturday with a milestone home run that puts his name in baseball's record books alongside some of the greatest to ever play the game.

Beltran, who earlier this month became just the fourth switch-hitter in major-league history to hit 400 home runs, notched career hit No. 2,500 during the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the Rays with a solo drive to left off southpaw Matt Moore.

The blast - Beltran's 12th of the season - makes him the fourth player ever to amass 2,500 hits, 400 homers, 300 steals, and 1,000 walks, joining legends Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and teammate Alex Rodriguez.

Beltran's production has slowed in recent seasons because of injuries, but his 12 homers are already more than halfway to the 19 he hit in 133 games last year, and three shy of matching his total in 2014. An eight-time All-Star, Beltran's had four 30-plus home run campaigns, including his impressive 41-homer season with the Mets in 2006.
