Baltimore Orioles top prospect Hunter Harvey is expected to miss four-to-six weeks as he undergoes a sports hernia surgery.

The club's first-round draft pick in 2013, Harvey was pitching in extended spring training before suffering a setback with his groin, according to The Baltimore Sun's Eduardo A. Encina.

The right-hander will undergo the procedure this week, after tests discovered he suffered a small tear in his groin.

Harvey hasn't pitched in an affiliated game since July 2014, and the club hopes he can return to the minors by July 1.

In his limited time in the minor leagues, Harvey owns a 2.87 ERA in 25 starts, holding opposing batters to a .212 batting average.
