Rays' Xavier Cedeno: Saddled with loss against Blue Jays on Sunday

Cedeno (2-1) failed to record an out in the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays. He surrendered a hit, two earned runs and a walk.

Analysis:

The 29-year-old reliever entered the final frame charged with preserving a 1-1 tie, but immediately surrendered a double to Darwin Barney and then a free pass to Michael Saunders. After being pulled for Alex Colome, Cedeno then saw the latter yield an RBI groundout to Edwin Encarnacion and a two-run homer to Troy Tulowitzki, adding two runs to his ledger. This performance broke a string of four straight scoreless outings for the five-year veteran and marks the first time he's given up more than an earned run this year. Although the outing shot Cedeno's ERA from a stellar 1.35 to 4.05, he remains one of the more reliable arms in the Rays' bullpen.
